Co-editor, New Internationalist (2025-present)

Managing editor, Bay Area Current, (20254 present)

  • I lead editorial operations for Bay Area Current, a new local news site covering working-class culture and life in the Bay. We publish three to four stories a week across four sections: labor, politics, culture and tech.

  • I shape overall editorial strategy, including: manage  a team of five editors and 20+ freelance reporters; review pitches; commission and edit stories; write copy;  liaise with fundraising, design and tech teams; plan the editorial calendar; recruit talent; maintain overall budgets, and conduct long-term strategic planning.

On-call editor, New Internationalist, (2024-25)

  • I provide a mixture of line editing, copy editing and fact-checking, copy for the magazine and website, as needed. Requires a generalist’s knowledge of the world and ability to quickly research. 

Editorial assistant, Verso Books, (2012) 

  • Assisted Verso’s two commissioning editors in London. Attended editorial meetings, read and fielded manuscripts, sourced cover images, wrote copy for the catalog, liaised with writers, researched rights, and wrote reader’s reports on submissions. Also assisted the Publicity department, produced blog posts, and promoted books and events through Twitter and Facebook. Responsible for office administration such  as franking mail, photocopying manuscripts, and liaising with couriers.

Communications director and website editor, The Freedom Bus (2012)

  • Travelled across the West Bank with The Freedom Theatre’s awareness-raising  initiative ‘The Freedom Bus’. My role included writing press releases, liaising with international  media outlets (including Al Jazeera, Guardian, Mondoweiss, Waging Nonviolence, +972, Electronic Intifada, and the Palestine Telegraph). I also created and maintained The Freedom Bus Ride blog, writing daily reports, coordinating  with photographers and filmmakers to source visual material, and publicizing the  ride across related accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.

Web editor, London Rockin’ Rollers, (2011-12)

  • Managed the blog content for the women’s flat-track roller derby team the  London Rockin’ Rollers. Included commissioning and editing articles, creating a  timetable of content, and coordinating across WordPress, Twitter and Facebook  to ensure effective publicity for the team and its events. 

Literary editor, Varsity: The Independent  Cambridge Student Newspaper, (2008-10).

  • Commissioned and edited weekly columns, reviews and features by student journalists. I was nominated for Best Features Writer at Guardian Student Media Awards, 2009.

Co-editor, The Mays 17 (2009)

  • Edited prestigious annual literary journal of new writing from Oxford and Cambridge. Involved fielding hundreds of submissions, organising committees of editors, artists, and designers. Greatest achievement was securing the writer and musician Patti Smith as outside editor, who wrote the introduction to the edition.

Co-founder and editor, Impropaganda Magazine (2008-9)

  • At college I co-founded and edited a print magazine of left-wing thought, culture and discussion. Commissioned and edited  articles, designed the entire magazine from scratch using InDesign, liaised with printers, and handled distribution and publicity. Some articles are archived here.
